COVID-19 CDC and the NJ Department of Children and Families Healthy Hygiene Practices

  • We will teach and reinforce washing hands and covering coughs and sneezes among children.

  • Children and staff will practice frequent hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Staff will be trained and will supervise children to ensure that proper hand-washing procedures are followed during the day.

  • Children and staff will be required to wash their hands upon arrival, after putting on indoor shoes, when entering the classroom, before meals and snacks, after meals and snacks, after outside time, after using the bathroom, and prior to leaving for home.

  • Chilltown Elementary will increase the frequency of cleaning toys, door knobs, light switches, tabletops, and restrooms throughout the day to insure we meet all DOH standards

  • Chilltown Elementary will use the 2 step cleaning process. First, the surface will be cleaned with a dish detergent and water solution. The second step will be a bleach and water solution. This solution will sit on the surface for two minutes before wiping dry.  Soap solution will be made weekly and bleach solution daily.

  • CDC-recommended soaps and sanitizers will be used in all areas.

  • In addition to our normal staff training program, all staff will be trained regarding proper hygiene practices for students, what social distancing means, COVID-19 symptoms and what to do if observed, and monitoring their own physical well being.

  • All staff will be temperature checked and questioned about symptoms every morning before allowed to start work.

If a staff member or child test positive for COVID-19: The school must notify the local health department for guidance. We truly appreciate your honesty in letting us know about a positive diagnosis.

Returning to school after COVID-19 diagnosis or exposure: You cannot be admitted back to school until all criteria for lifting transmission based precautions and home isolation have been met and your doctor has cleared the child or staff member.
